How the Profitablity Course Changed My Store
Kim Behzadi, Certified Professional Bookseller, Read It & Eat Bookstore, Buffalo, NY
As a proud member of PBS and a Certified Professional Bookseller, I jumped at the chance to take Intro to Profitability to support my ongoing education in bookselling. I was delighted to learn new ways to improve margin in my store. One key learning of the class was the role of remainders and publisher overstock, especially for our culinary bookstore, where cookbooks have a high sticker price.
Read It & Eat investigated this and learned about a $1,000 giveaway hosted by Book Depot while our class was still underway. In a no-small-miracles/serendipitous way, we won this giveaway! We just signed the lease for our first flagship location, graduating from 450 square feet in a cooperative space to a new flagship store with over 1,200 square feet of retail space. This $1,000 is a game-changer for our store. We're walking into a new space with a new margin strategy thanks to PBS and the ability to stock our store with over 300 new titles.
Book Depot is right across the border from our culinary bookstore in Buffalo, and we toured the facility on 7/3! Thank you, PBS, for continuing to show us the way to becoming the best bookstore we can be
